In just under two weeks, the state of Colorado will introduce its sixth area code, 748, as stated by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (CDRA) in an announcement made on Wednesday.
According to the CDRA, new telephone numbers are in greater demand and the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) approved the implementation of the new 748 area code to overlay the existing 970 region.
The CDRA stated that widespread implementation of the new area code won’t start until sometime after late 2026. Nonetheless, beginning July 7, individuals within the 970 area code overlay zone might receive numbers featuring the new 748 area code upon requesting new services or adding extra lines.
At present, the 970 area code encompasses various places in west and north Colorado such as Aspen, Breckenridge, Durango, Estes Park, Fort Collins, Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Greeley, Loveland, Silverthorne, Steamboat Springs, and Vail. In the future, the newly established 748 area code will cover exactly the same geographical territory now serviced by the 970 area code.
