Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) has announced plans to file an application with the Public Service Commission of South Carolina (PSCSC) for permission to build a new natural gas-powered plant in Anderson County. They aim to start construction in 2027 and have the 1.4 gigawatt facility up and running by 2031.

GE Vernovo has been selected to supply gas turbines and associated equipment for the Anderson facility. This decision follows their recent agreement with Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK), under which they have committed to providing as many as 11 gas turbines along with relevant components for upcoming energy projects of Duke. This collaboration aims to assist Duke in addressing the projected peak rise in electricity needs driven by developments in manufacturing, expansion of data centers, and increased population.

This progress aligns with Duke Energy Corporation’s (NYSE:DUK) Carolinas Resource Plan, where the utility company pinpointed a requirement for 6.8 GW of new combined-cycle natural-gas generation along with approximately 2.125 GW of combustion-turbine natural-gas capacity within their suggested resource mix.
