WHEELING, W.Va. – Gas Prices Increase in Northern West Virginia Due to Market Changes The cost of gas climbed by seven cents this week in Northern West Virginia, with the new average price standing at $3.167 per gallon, as reported by AAA East Central.
Gasoline prices throughout Northern West Virginia differ based on the area.

West Virginia ranks as one of the priciest states for public electric vehicle charging, sharing the top spot with Alaska at 51 cents per kilowatt hour.
Across the U.S., national statistics indicate that the mean cost of gasoline went up by 8 cents to reach $3.22 per gallon. The price of crude oil remained over $70 per barrel, largely due to conflicts in the Middle East.
During the weekend, US air strikes on Iranian nuclear sites led to an increase in oil futures to $78 a barrel on Sunday night. However, prices dropped back into the high seventies by Monday afternoon.
On Sunday, Iran’s parliament decided to close off the Strait of Hormuz, an important passage for approximately 20 percent of worldwide oil deliveries. However, the ultimate call rests with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
The cost of crude oil has hit peaks not seen since mid-February. Even with these recent surges, gasoline prices are still 22 cents less compared to what they were at this point last year because of increased oil supplies.
Cost Comparison Here are some of the highest-priced gasoline markets within the U.S., which include California at $4.66 per gallon, followed closely by Hawaii with $4.48 and Washington at $4.44. On the lower end of the spectrum, you have Mississippi priced at $2.73, Oklahoma at $2.82, and Louisiana at $2.83.
Costs of Electric Vehicle Charging Across the Country In addition to higher costs, some states with expensive public electric vehicle (EV) charging include Tennessee at 47 cents and Hawaii at 45 cents per kilowatt-hour.
