As part of a broader initiative by its parent company, Kroger, three Mariano's grocery stores located in the Chicago suburbs will be shutting down.
A representative from Mariano's stated that closing these three locations is a result of "a broader corporate strategy aimed at enhancing efficiency and securing the future stability of our operations."
Mariano's Buffalo Grove at 450 W. Half Day Road in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, will close on August 8.
Mariano's Bloomingdale at 144 S. Gary Ave. in Bloomingdale, Illinois, will close on August 15.
Mariano's Glenview West located at 2323 Capital Drive in Northbrook, Illinois, will be closing down on August 22.
The spokesperson said employees at all three stores will be given the opportunity to transfer to a different location in order to keep their jobs.
Kroger plans to close approximately 5% of its stores across the country, totaling around 60 locations, within the coming one and a half years. These store closings follow the failure of their proposed merger with competitor Albertsons, an agreement that was halted due to legal disputes. In December 2024, following a federal court’s decision to block the merger, Albertsons abandoned the partnership and initiated litigation against Kroger alleging a violation of contractual obligations.
